Who This Page Is For
If you are a military family at MCAS Yuma or Yuma Proving Ground facing a PCS move-out, this page covers exactly what you need to know about getting a dumpster to your property fast.
This includes:
- Active duty Marines or soldiers clearing housing before departure
- Military spouses managing the move-out while the service member is already in transit
- Families in off-base rental housing in Yuma neighborhoods near the base
- Families in on-base Lincoln Military Housing at MCAS Yuma
- Families at YPG in the northeastern Yuma County area
Whether you are in base housing or renting off-base in West Yuma, Fortuna Foothills, or a Yuma neighborhood, the process is the same: call us, we deliver, you load, we pick up.
What a PCS Cleanout Actually Involves
A Permanent Change of Station move comes with a government-arranged TMO (Transportation Management Office) shipment for household goods. The TMO moves what the military will ship. Everything else — the stuff that does not make the weight limit, the items not worth the cost of shipping across the country, or things that simply accumulated over 2-3 years at Yuma — that is what goes in the dumpster.
One more practical note: BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) stops when the service member departs. That makes clearing the property and ending the lease on time a financial priority, not just a logistics one. A dumpster helps you move faster.
After a typical Yuma assignment, military families commonly need to dispose of:
- Oversized furniture — old sofas, beds, dressers, or pieces that were bought at Yuma and are not worth the shipping cost
- Old appliances — microwaves, small kitchen appliances, fans, window units
- Accumulated household items — kitchenware, linens, décor, storage tubs
- Clothing and textiles — items that did not make the cut for the next assignment
- Yard and patio items — patio furniture, grills, garden tools
- Boxes and packing materials from the TMO move preparation
- General junk — two or three years of accumulated items that no longer have a clear home
Most of this goes in a standard roll-off container without any issue. The one item that requires extra attention in Yuma is old AC units and refrigerators — more on that below.
On-Base vs Off-Base Housing — What You Need to Know
Off-Base Housing in Yuma
If you are renting off-base — in a Yuma neighborhood, West Yuma, Fortuna Foothills, or anywhere outside the gate — delivery works exactly the same as any residential dumpster rental. We need 60 feet of straight-line clearance and 23 feet of vertical clearance, we place driveway boards under the container to protect the surface, and you do not need to be home for delivery.
No permit is required for placement on your private driveway or yard.
On-Base Delivery at MCAS Yuma
Delivery to Lincoln Military Housing at MCAS Yuma requires advance coordination for gate access. Call us before booking if your housing is on base. We will confirm the delivery process for your specific housing area and what information we need to get the truck through the gate.
Do not book online and assume we can show up at the gate without prior coordination — call us first and we sort it out in one conversation.
Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) Families
Families at YPG on the northeast side of Yuma County face longer delivery distances. Call ahead to confirm scheduling. Same-day is possible for most YPG-area addresses with an early enough booking.

What Size Dumpster for a PCS Cleanout
A 20-yard container is the right call for most standard 3-bedroom military housing PCS cleanouts. It holds approximately 6 pickup truck loads — enough for the furniture, accumulated household items, and general cleanout debris from a typical 2-3 year Yuma assignment.
If you have been at Yuma longer than 3 years, have a garage, or have a larger off-base home, size up to the 30-yard. Getting a second container mid-cleanout when you are already against an inspection deadline is the worst time to discover you ordered too small.
Not sure? Call (928) 268-6454 and describe what you have. We give you a straight answer in two minutes.

The AC Unit Situation in Yuma Military Housing
Yuma’s extreme heat — average July highs above 106 degrees — destroys air conditioning systems faster than almost anywhere else in the country. Old window AC units and portable air conditioners are one of the most common items military families try to put in a cleanout dumpster.
Here is the issue: federal law under EPA Section 608 requires Freon to be removed from any AC unit or refrigerator by a certified HVAC technician before the unit can go in a roll-off container. This is not optional and it is not negotiable — it is federal law.
If you have an old AC unit or refrigerator that needs to go, have a local Yuma HVAC tech handle the refrigerant removal before the container arrives. Once the Freon is out, the empty unit goes in with everything else.
If you load a Freon-containing unit into the container, our driver will refuse the pickup. That is a delay you cannot afford on a PCS timeline. Handle the Freon first.
Timing Your PCS Cleanout — What Works Best
PCS moves peak in spring (March through June) and summer (June through August). Both windows hit at the same time Yuma is at its hottest. Here is how to use the rental period effectively:
Book as early as possible — not the day before your move-out inspection. Most families need several days to separate what goes with the TMO shipment from what gets disposed of. A 7-day rental gives you the full window to work through the property.
Sort first, load second — go through rooms and separate what is being shipped, what is being donated, and what is getting tossed before the container arrives. This makes loading faster and reduces the risk of throwing away something you actually need.
Account for the heat — working outdoors in Yuma in June, July, or August is genuinely dangerous. Schedule loading for early morning before 10am. Do not plan full-day outdoor loading sessions in peak summer heat.
Extra days are available — if your timeline shifts or your inspection date moves, extra rental days are $25 to $40 per day. Let us know before the rental period ends and we extend automatically.
When the Service Member Has Already Left
It is completely normal for the service member to be in transit to the new duty station while the family is still finishing the Yuma move-out. We take bookings from whoever is handling the logistics — spouse, family member, or a designated representative.
The person calling does not need to be the name on the lease or the orders. Give us the property address, what is going in the container, and when you need delivery. We handle the rest.

Oversized furniture not worth shipping, old appliances (Freon removed from AC units and refrigerators), accumulated household items, clothing and textiles, yard and patio items, boxes, and general junk from 2-3 years at Yuma. Most of it goes in without any issue — see our materials guide for the full accepted and prohibited list.

The most important items in the Yuma context: AC units and refrigerators with Freon still inside (federal law requires Freon removal first), pool chemicals if the property has a pool, liquid paint, and motor oil. Full list at our materials guide.
